Project overview
Leon Building Services was appointed to deliver a significant education-sector project at Pool Hayes Academy, Willenhall, combining the construction of a new two-storey teaching block with the conversion and refurbishment of existing sports changing facilities.
The project was designed to support the Academy’s long-term growth by expanding teaching capacity while upgrading sports facilities to provide dedicated accommodation for both indoor and outdoor activities.

Scope of works
1. New Teaching Block Construction
Leon Building Services constructed a stand‑alone two‑storey teaching block, delivering a modern learning environment designed to meet current educational and building standards. The new build comprised:
- Seven new classrooms
- Toilets and staff facilities
- Office accommodation
- Circulation spaces and plant rooms
- Full installation of new mechanical and electrical services
- Associated and limited external works to integrate the building within the existing campus
The building was designed to be efficient, functional, and adaptable for future educational needs.
2. Sports Changing Rooms Conversion & Refurbishment
In addition to the new build works, the project included the conversion and refurbishment of existing sports changing rooms, providing separate facilities for indoor (gymnasium) and outdoor sports.
Works included, but were not limited to:
- Modification and demolition of existing masonry walls
- Over‑roofing of existing flat roofing, including new rooflights, fascias and rainwater goods
- Alterations to existing below‑ground drainage
- Installation of new windows and external doors
- Over‑cladding of one external elevation
- Installation of new internal partitions and doors
- New floor, wall and ceiling finishes throughout
- Installation of new sanitaryware and associated plumbing
- Full mechanical and electrical services upgrades
- Construction of new external steps
- Modifications to existing tarmac paving to support safe access and egress
Challenges & delivery
The project required careful coordination to deliver both new-build construction and complex refurbishment works within a live school environment. Leon Building Services implemented phased programming, strict site management procedures, and robust health and safety controls to ensure minimal disruption to the Academy’s daily operations.
The works were successfully delivered over a 12-month programme, with completion achieved in April 2026, in line with the agreed contract and specification.

Outcomes
The completed project has delivered a substantial upgrade to Pool Hayes Academy’s facilities. The new teaching block provides additional high-quality classroom space, while the refurbished sports changing rooms now offer modern, functional accommodation tailored to different sporting activities.
