Project overview
Leon Building Services was appointed to carry out the internal reconfiguration of an existing lecture theatre within the All Saints Building at the Heart of Worcestershire College, Worcester. The project focused on transforming the original fully stepped arrangement into a more flexible, multi‑level teaching environment, improving accessibility, acoustics, and overall functionality.

Scope of works
1. Strip‑Out & Preparation
The project began with the general removal of existing fixtures and fittings within the lecture theatre to allow for a full internal reconfiguration. This included careful strip‑out works carried out within an occupied college building, requiring detailed coordination and safety management.
2. Lecture Theatre Reconfiguration
Leon Building Services reconfigured the existing fully stepped theatre to create three distinct levels, enhancing flexibility and functionality. Works included:
- Creation of two new upper floor areas
- Installation of new stepped access arrangements
- Provision of compliant handrails, guard rails and balustrading to all upper levels
The reconfigured layout provides improved sightlines, circulation routes and adaptable teaching space.
3. Acoustic & Interior Upgrades
To improve sound quality and user comfort, the project included extensive acoustic upgrades:
- Dry lining to existing walls incorporating acoustic panels
- Replacement of existing suspended ceilings with rigid MF acoustic ceilings
These enhancements were complemented by:
- New flooring throughout
- Full internal redecoration to deliver a clean, modern teaching environment
4. Mechanical, Electrical & Data Alterations
Associated alterations were carried out to existing building services to suit the new layout, including:
- Electrical upgrades and revised lighting arrangements
- Mechanical services alterations
- Data services modifications to support modern teaching requirements
All services were coordinated to integrate seamlessly within the refurbished lecture theatre.
Challenges & delivery
Delivering structural and acoustic improvements within an operational educational building required careful programming and communication. Leon Building Services worked closely with Harris & Associates and the college to ensure the works were completed safely, efficiently and with minimal disruption.
The project commenced in February 2022 and was successfully completed in June 2022, meeting programme and quality expectations.
