Leon Building Services was appointed to deliver a major expansion project at Birchensale Middle School in Redditch, involving the construction of two extensions to the existing school buildings alongside a comprehensive programme of external works.
The project was designed to increase teaching capacity, improve circulation and outdoor provision, and enhance access and parking facilities while maintaining safe operation of the school throughout the duration of the works.

1. Building Extensions

Leon Building Services constructed two new extensions to the existing school buildings, delivering additional internal accommodation tailored to the school’s operational needs.
Works included:

• Full construction of both extensions
• Enabling works to support integration with the existing buildings
• Installation of all associated mechanical and electrical services

The extensions were designed and constructed to complement the existing architecture while providing modern, functional internal environments.

2. External Works & Site Improvements

Alongside the building extensions, a significant programme of external works was delivered to improve the overall site layout and facilities, including:

• Formation of a new additional hard play area
• Extension and reconfiguration of the existing car parking facilities
• Associated access, circulation and safety improvements

3. Building Services, Landscaping & Finishes

The project also included:

• Comprehensive mechanical and electrical installations
• Landscape planting to enhance the external environment
• Associated hard and soft landscaping works

All elements were carefully coordinated to ensure a cohesive and high‑quality finish across the site.

Working within a live school environment required careful programming, clear communication and strict health and safety management. Leon Building Services worked closely with Harris & Associate Surveyors Ltd and school representatives to phase works effectively and minimise disruption to pupils and staff.

The project commenced in September 2024 and was successfully completed in September 2025, delivered safely, on programme and to a high standard.
